The Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series, for his performance in his final season of the Office. The season in which he arguably showed the greatest range. He was up against some tough competition, namely Louis C.K. of Louie and Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock. But it still looked like it could swing his way.
But it didn’t. Instead Jim Parsons won, for his portrayal of Sheldon Cooper, the most flat and predictable rangeless character in the history of humour. If you can tense up your limbs and move your head in a jerking fashion and quickly say “That’s not what Leanord Nemoy had to say on the matter” before pausing for five seconds to leave room for the laugh track, then apparently you deserve an Emmy more than Steve Carell. More than Michael Scott.
Goodbye, Michael. Sorry Steve.
